Worship Gatherings
We understand that visiting a church for the first time can be... uncomfortable. What do you wear? What will the music be like? Are there any real people there that I could be friends with? Does the pastor have anything helpful to say? Will this be just another irrelevant religious service?
Hey, we've been there.
What should you wear to Koinos? Wear whatever you want. Depending on the time of year, most people will wear jeans or shorts. No robes or ties for the pastor; they just aren't very comfortable. He's kind of a "jeans" guy.
What will the music be like? Our music is led by a band that typically includes acoustic and electric guitar, bass, and drums. We are confident that you will find the music interesting and meaningful.
Who will be there? At Koinos, we are a pretty diverse group of people. Professionals, blue-collar workers, and college students all call Koinos home. There are many young families, plenty of singles, and more than a few empty-nesters. Some people have been committed to Jesus for years; others would describe themselves as spiritually searching. Most regulars would say the people of Koinos are some of their best friends.
What will happen? Some people will greet you at the door. There will be plenty of coffee and refreshments available, along with anything from U2 to Johnny Cash playing in the background. If you have children, you will find our nursery and Children's Ministry well-organized, well-run, and teeming with kids.
During the Worship Gathering, we typically begin with some music that is anything but boring. Next, we often play a clip from a popular film, such as something from the Coen Brothers, or from a popular song by someone like Weezer that ties into the theme we will be examining. The teaching will be out of the Bible, and we are sure you will find that it connects in a deep, real way to your life. Often, there is a time after the teaching for individuals to ask questions or make comments. We take communion monthly, and we usually end with prayer.
